It's amazing how much one can dread an encounter and have that encounter actually turn out in a positive manner.
As a trainer, I deal with so many character types on a daily basis that it sometimes boggles my mind. Of course, my least favorite is the over-bearing loud mouth, the bane of my existence as a trainer. It's even worse when they are over-bearing and loud, but in a polite and smiling way. Argh.
Weeks ago I trained a group and it was a disaster. Nothing worked as it should, nothing seemed to flow well and the group seemed more like they wanted me dead than to learn anything. I left a humbled man...
I had to do a followup, and I got my ducks lined up in advance. I went back expecting disaster and it turned out alright. A-OK to be exact. The group was interested, they seemed to learn. Loud mouth was happy and smiled constantly. The bloody machine did what I told it to do.
For days before I had groaned whenever I thought about this encounter and it turned out fine, but the dread was there and no I think back and chuckle. All worked out well in the end.
Best of all, my stuff went well, and their office got flooded the day before the second training. Poetic justice for little old me.
Moof power!
